SELFCheck Iron Level Test: Convenient Home Testing for Iron Deficiency

Easily monitor your iron levels at home with the SELFCheck Iron Level Test. No more uncomfortable doctor visits or long waits for results – this simple finger-prick blood test delivers accurate results in just 10 minutes, letting you know if you have iron deficiency anaemia.

Maintaining healthy iron levels is essential for proper body function. Low iron means low oxygen, as the body can't produce enough healthy red blood cells to transport it. This can cause fatigue, dizziness, shortness of breath, and weakened muscle performance. Iron is crucial for converting blood glucose to energy, supporting the immune system, cognitive development, and enzyme production, which are vital for hormone, amino acid, and neurotransmitter production. Symptoms of iron deficiency anaemia include headaches, palpitations, and even hair loss.

Who is at Risk of Low Iron Levels?

  • Women: Menstruation, pregnancy, and menopause can all significantly impact iron levels. Women of all ages should monitor their iron intake.
  • People with Crohn’s Disease: About 60-80% of people with Crohn’s struggle with iron absorption, making them prone to deficiency.
  • Vegans and Vegetarians: While a balanced diet with pulses, nuts, vegetables, and legumes can maintain iron levels, those lacking these foods are at higher risk.

How Does the SELFCheck Iron Level Test Work?

The SELFCheck Iron Level Test measures biomarkers like ferritin, which accurately reflect your iron levels. Ferritin, a protein that stores iron in cells, indicates your iron reserves. A simple, painless finger-prick blood test, it boasts 98% accuracy. A single line next to the C mark on the test indicates ferritin levels below 20ng/mL, suggesting potential iron deficiency. The test can be performed at any time but avoid testing if you're ill, suffering from acute inflammation, or have spleen or liver issues.

Test Kit Includes:

  1. 1 test device
  2. 1 plastic pipette and 1 desiccant pouch
  3. 1 small bottle containing 1ml of diluent
  4. 2 sterile lancets for blood sample collection
  5. 1 instruction leaflet

Next Steps if Your Iron Levels are Low:

Consult your doctor to discuss your results and determine if additional tests are necessary. Often, simple dietary changes or supplements can help, but professional advice is crucial for proper management.

With the SELFCheck Iron Level Test, you can take control of your health with ease and confidence, ensuring your iron levels are where they need to be.
